Affordable Housing and Homelessness

Nick believes everyone has the right to a safe, decent, and affordable place to call home. He is a two-time recipient of the "Low Income Housing Champion Award" from the Community Alliance of Tenants.

  • Nick created the Portland Housing Bureau, prioritizing homeless families and veterans, and low-income older adults.

  • Nick worked with community partners to pass Portland's first affordable housing bond.

  • Nick established Portland's first severe weather emergency plan for the homeless.

  • Nick supported historic renter protections and voted to fund the first-ever Office of Landlord-Tenant Affairs.

  • Nick led the city's efforts to end veteran's homelessness through "Operation 305," the construction of Gray's Landing, and new federal VASH Vouchers.

  • Nick launched the city's first Fair Housing Action Plan, opposing discrimination in housing and helping renters affected by gentrification and displacement.

For over twenty years, Nick has been deeply committed to serving our community’s most vulnerable residents. It’s why he ran for office and why we continue to need his strong leadership on Council.
